Bug-in-Cup Experiment and Journal

Context:  Students were given live insects to rear over a period of several weeks for a take-home experiment. The basic experiment entailed providing water to the insects as a control and another liquid of their choice as the treatment. Students recorded experimental observations related to insect response to treatments in a journal, which was the final product of the assignment.

Reflection:  I think the Bug-in-Cup experiment served as a great introduction to the scientific method, something few students in my class seemed to be familiar with. The students enjoyed working with live insects. Many of the observations they made in their journals were quite keen, and I was very happy with the quality of the journals overall.
